Scraps

Scraps is a 2D, hand and digitally painted animation about a Ghanaian orphan who builds robot figurines from discarded electronic waste to serve as representations of his lost family members. When one robot is under threat, he goes to great lengths to reunite it with his robot family.

Katherine Mooney completed Scraps in April 2018 as a graduate student at Pratt Institute. Mooney graduated from Pratt Institute with her Master’s in Animation and Motion Arts this May of 2018 with an Excellence in Academic Achievement Award. She completed her undergraduate studies at Williams College, where she developed a versatile art background and was elected Class Artist upon graduation. Mooney currently lives and works in New York City.

Premiered at Pratt’s Best of DDA 2018 Show at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Brooklyn, NY.

 Inspired by the unique landscape of Agbogbloshie, Ghana,  Scraps  enables viewers to experience one of the world’s largest e-waste dumps as something tragic, yet beautiful.
